Countrymans Diary

Taster day’s

The boys and girls of Pass It On Young Sports have lined up not one but two cracking taster day venues, to end their already impressive and highly popular season to date.

The first of the two events is to be held on the 8th September at The Ring O Bells public house.  This is once again a new taster day venue for the Pass It On crew who are all thoroughly excited at the prospect of hosting a taster day within such stunning surroundings.

The Ring O Bells is a traditional country pub located within the picturesque village of Compton Martin, North Somerset and listed within the Doomsday Book.  The village itself lies within the heart of the ChewValley and at the foothills of the Mendips.  Surrounded by undulating hills and landscapes to rival any picture postcard, this is an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The taster day itself will be held within the grounds of The Ring O Bells between 10 am-5 pm. The taster day is free to all members and non-members can sign up on the day or in advance through the Pass It On Young Sports website (www.pass-it-on-young-sports.org.uk).  Alternatively, non members can pay a donation of £1 per person on the day.

Pass It On Young Sports will be putting on all the usual events that visitors to their days know and love, along with a few sneaky new attractions!  As always there will be hands on sessions in fishing and archery.  WisewoodsBushcraft Company will also be on hand offering demonstrations in fire lighting and natural cordage.  There will also be an air rifle range (sponsored by Air Arms), bird of prey demonstrations, ferret handling, traditional hedge laying and stalking/walking stick making.

Refreshments will be available throughout the day and for those looking for a little more, the pub itself offers a vast selection of fine wines and ales and boasts an extensive menu comprising many locally sourced ingredients and game dishes.  With its flagstone and wooden floors, inglenook fireplaces and cosey leather chairs all offering the visitor a full and rounded countryside experience.

It is with a tear in my eye that I move onto the second of the Pass It On Young Sports taster days to be held on the 22nd September between 10 am – 5 pm as this is sadly the last taster day for the year in the Pass It On Young Sports Calendar.

Following tradition, Pass It On Young Sports will again return for the second time this year to what has to be one of the most beautiful venues we are privileged to host one of our events, Jacklands Trout and Coarse Fishery, Tickenham.

For those who attended at the start of this year, what more can be said of the location.  Lying within the beautiful Yeo Valley of North Somerset this friendly and welcoming well stocked fishing lakes caters for both fly and coarse fishermen alike.  As with the event on the 8th September all the fond favorite activities will be on offer along with experts on hand providing tuition in both coarse and fly fishing and making use of the stocked lakes.  With a farm shop offering local produce and a tea room supplying home made cake to die for what more could the seasoned or not so seasoned taster day attendee ask for.
